​Richard Slimon earned a BFA degree in painting from the St. Louis School of Fine Art at Washington University. After receiving a graduate fellowship from the University of Wichita, he served briefly as Acting Director of the Wichita Art Museum. He then became a teaching fellow at the university while earning his MFA degree in painting. His teaching experiences include an Artist-in-Residency at the University of Iowa, Iowa City. He was Professor of Drawing and Painting at Emporia State University for thirty-seven years until his retirement in 1998. 

Richard Slimon's work is included in private, corporate, university and museum collections throughout the country. His many awards include a purchase from the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters. He had twenty-six one-man shows and participated in numerous invitational and competitive exhibitions. 

Over the years, Slimon was represented by the Jan Weiner Gallery in Kansas City and the Slater/Price Gallery in New York City. Currently he is represented by the Strecker-Nelson-West Gallery in Manhatttan, Kansas. He maintained a studio in his home until his death in 2022.
