A deep love of the natural world is at the center of my artwork. The source of my inspiration is not the grandiose, which I find difficult to comprehend. I prefer instead to deal with a small and intimate world. At my leisure I can examine and re-examine an endless supply of intricate and ever-changing organic forms. These small wonders give me much joy and feed my artistic imagination.
At the same time, I am conscious of the human urge to organize, subdue and even destroy wildness. The confrontation is inevitable, but it saddens me. The Oradour series is inspired by this conflict, which is part of my experience and my art.
"A man is rich in proportion to the number of things which he can afford to let alone."
— Henry David Thoreau, Walden
